Respiratory Disorders

Asthma, Allergy, Allergic Bronchitis, Pharyngitis, Laryngitis, URTI, and Pulmonary T.B.

Respiratory System:

The primary function of the respiratory system is to supply the blood with oxygen in order for the blood to deliver oxygen to all parts of the body. The respiratory system does this through breathing. When we breathe, we inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. This exchange of gases is the respiratory system’s means of getting oxygen to the blood.

The respiratory system can be subdivided into an upper respiratory tract and a lower respiratory tract based on anatomical features. The upper respiratory tract includes the nasal passages, pharynx and the larynx, while the lower respiratory tract is comprised of the trachea, the primary bronchi and lungs.

Upper Respiratory Tract Infection:

The common cold refers to a viral infection of the upper respiratory tract. Rhinitis, Sinusitis, Pharyngitis, Tonsillitis , laryngitis these are infections of the specific area of upper respiratory tract.

Asthma:

It’s a common long term inflammatory disease of the airways of lungs. Muscles within the breathing passages contract (bronchospasm), causing even further narrowing of the airways. This narrowing makes it difficult for air to be breathed out (exhaled) from the lungs. This resistance to exhaling leads to the typical symptoms of an asthma attack.

Pulmonary Tuberculosis:

It is caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis means the bacteria is easily spread from an infected person to someone else. You can get TB by breathing in air droplets from a cough or sneeze of an infected person. The resulting lung infection is called primary TB. For diagnosis sputum examination is advisable.

Smoking and air pollution are two common causes of respiratory problems.
